Spiritual Fluency Interview Spotlight - Helena Iorio
Helena Iorio is an entrepreneur who started her travel consulting business back in 2010. She is considered a dream consultant with a knack for matching her clients with their travel dreams! She and I met through our mutual love for travel and adventure when I first started my journey as an Airstream Nomad in 2024. We quickly found that we had other shared loves that included dogs and spirituality.
Though Helena has had many powerful experiences with God, The Universe, I want to tell you about the time she was called to Mexico. It was a time of challenge and change in her life, what I call a divine interruption. Some call them divine interventions, but I prefer to think of them as interruptions that arrive just in time to wake us up. They are moments of awakening that call us to our necessary transformation. Many people, when going through a tough time, fall into despair and complacency, but Helena didn't take that path. Instead, she heard a call to adventure as Joseph Campbell would say and followed a calling from the Northeast US all the way to Mexico where she met a Shaman. Through a series of Shamanic experiences, she was led onto a path of awakening that changed her life in profoundly positive ways.
When I asked her what had been the most rewarding part of her spiritual path, she had this to say, "The awakening. The awareness. The absolute assurance. I have no doubt that there is something so much bigger and better out there. That all of our pain and suffering is temporary."
How we handle a divine interruption is one of the keys to spiritual fluency and the co-creation of a fulfilling life. Some people, like Helena, have an ability to notice and follow their intuitive calling that leads them from their head into their heart when crises arise. This is the way to our fulfillment, or as she says, "home". I asked her what message she would share with others just starting on their spiritual path and she said, “Be open. Be open to what's calling you.”
We all need reminders and tools to step outside the monotony of the day-to-day to wake up, dream bigger, dare to trust our calling, have more fun, and bask in the magic of life. Helena’s story exemplifies what it means to thrive in two areas of spiritual fluency - self awareness and trust in the unknown.
Divine interruptions help us move beyond our inner critical voices, and social influences that tell us to be more practical, more logical, and not expect too much.
